Top 5 Domain Name Generator Websites

Selecting a great domain name for a new website is important but finding just the right one that is available is often difficult.

There are many websites that offer to help us find a unique domain name and I recently waded through many of them and evaluated their service. Here are my top 5 picks for Domain Name Generating Resources.

Bust A Name

Bust A Name is a beta word combining site. By typing in words you are interested in, the site will automatically combine them to create possible domain names and show which ones are available. This site will also offer suggestions via the thesaurus so you can actually explore more combinations. You can also purchase the domain name via their site through popular registrars. A video tutorial is provided to show how to use all the features of this site and get the most out of all the features. Overall an excellent resource because it shows real time availability of domains.

Domain Exposer

This site is easy to use and will help you an extensive selection of available domains.  I think this is probably my favorite of all the domain name generators I’ve listed here.  This one just gives you so many unique and usable options.

You begin by selecting a keyword that describes your website.  Secondly, you select from their preselected  list of groups such as nouns, adjectives, computer terms, financial terms and so many more.  Once you generate the domains you can select from available domains.

Domain Name Combination Checker

Select up to 5 words that describe your business, product or service. Type them into the form and click generate. The combinations of words will be created with and without a hyphen, in various textual order and also display the registration status of the resulting domains suggested.  Immediately find out if the domain you like is available. This site is uncomplicated and gives results.

Dot-O-Mator

This is a good resource to help you find a combination of keywords. You can select a suffix and a prefix and the site will combine them with unique options. Very easy to use and this service did come up with good combinations in my test.

Nameboy Domain Search

Nameboy.com is also a word combining website. Start with two keywords and let the site search for combinations and availabilities. You can also search hyphenated words and words that rhyme.  I also like this site because it shows if the domains are available in real time.

I certainly hope this Top 5 list will help you to find your next domain name!

Thanks for a very useful list of links. It’s so hard to come up with a domain names that work. I recently went to a site http://www.humandomaingenerator.com/ that has a group of actual people helping me with coming up with a domain name for free. It was very helpful.

  10. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions of other useful links.
Ellen thanks for the link to the “human” domain generators. :)
    Hadn’t heard of that one.

Another site to try is: http://www.symnym.com . I’ve been working on this one for awhile – still tuning the AI algorithms used to determine how “good” a name is, but it’s already capable of producing some pretty unique name results compared to similar tools.

  12. Hey K.G.,
I tried out your site a few times. I typed in dog & recipe to see what would come out and a few options seemed reasonable. The rest made very little sense at all. I guess that’s what you mean about tuning the algorithm. It seems that once it finds a synonym it uses those new synonyms to search for more options?

I tried Carnival & ride and got some pretty weird options. I think you’d call them “unique”. Good luck with this!
