5 Tutorial Sites You Should Have RSSed

In this round-up of sorts, I present 5 tutorial sites that I think are invaluable to any web designer or developer and the ones you should visit. I’ve also included a difficulty level, as some sites tailor towards a certain level more than others. The sites are in no particular order. I know it is only 5, but I think if you browse through a list of 50, you tend to skim and very rarely look at them all. With just these 5, in my opinion the best 5 out there, you are much more likely to check them out, and you really should.

CSS Tricks | www.css-tricks.com | Level: All.

csstricks

CSS Tricks is one of my favourite sites around. Chris regularly updates, often every day so you can be certain of finding new content nearly if not always every day. He covers many topics, although obviously most revolve around CSS, but you will also see some jQuery thrown in for good measure as well!

NETTUTS | www.nettuts.com | Level: Intermediate and Up

nettuts

NETTUTS is a superb site for those regularly diving in and out of many languages. It contains tutorials on loads of web languages and also design, so it’s like the all you can eat buffet of tutorial sites. However rarely I think are there tutorials for complete beginners, but if you have dabbled in a language and want to advance your skills, NETTUTS is perfect. The weekly screencast by Jeffrey Way is especially fantastic.

Tutorial9 | www.tutorial9.net | Level: All

tutorial9

Tutorial 9 I don’t think is mentioned enough around forums. Sure, with 13000 subscribers it is certainly popular but I think it deserves much more mentions. The tutorials here are brilliant and are for all levels and on a variety of subjects, although the main subject very much tends towards Photoshop.

Smashing Magazine | www.smashingmagazine.com | Level: All

smashingmag

Smashing Magazine mostly deals with round-ups and great sources of information but also you will find great tutorials. They do a weekly QA session in which reader’s questions are answered by the best in the industry.

Theme Forest Blog | blog.themeforest.net | Level: All (Loads for Beginners)

themeforest

With regular tutorials the Theme Forest blog has it covered. Without a doubt however, the best feature is the regular screencast series from that man Jeffery Way, who I mentioned earlier. He has now done beginner => expert tutorials on PHP, jQuery and has just started on Regular Expressions (Regex for short). If you want to learn from scratch, his screencasts are out of this world. Articles from other contributors (look out for my 1 article as well!) are also of a very high standard (if I do say so myself!)
