It has been a while since the last review Magic Zoom.
You can find my previous review here. Version 2.1 adds some important new features. However the base product is still very much the same and in this review I will be focusing on the new functionality offered.
The main negative from the previous version was that low bandwidth users would be stuck looking at a small image while the large image slowly loaded in the background. This was far from ideal and as a result it limited the usage of where this tool could be implemented.
Fortunately, this has been addressed in a version 2.1 with a loading icon and customizable loading text. This means that instead of seeing a small image, there will be a signal informing visitors that more options are being loaded. This new feature alone adds tremendous value to magic zoom.
The second main change is that it is now possible to drag and drop your zoom area. This removes the need to keep the mouse hovering over the image. The value of this feature greatly depends on what you want to use magic zoom for. While it may not be practical for all websites due to the amount of screen space it requires, it certainly does open up interesting new ways to implement the product.
Version 2.1 has completed this product for me. Magic Zoom is easy to implement due to its excellent documentation, it’s a joy to use and it’s easily customizable. It will add value to just about any site, so if you are looking for a way to set yourself apart from competitors Magic Zoom should certainly be considered.
My previous review called this product “undeniably cool”. It really is just that.
