Based on what I've read there, YUI2's version (which is what this tutorial is based on) was developed with the older browsers in mind. With the fall of some of the older browsers off the A-Grade list, Yahoo is taking the opportunity to restructure and rethink it to make it even better for the next release. It may even fix the issue with CSS validation.
