Broadband Speed Increase

I have my Broadband through UPC, which used to be NTL (a television cable company) here in Ireland. I went on to there website the other day and noticed that my package of 3mb could be upgraded free of charge (agreeing means a new 12 month contract). Anyway, I opted for this and got confirmation this evening that the upgrade was complete. I was told to reboot my cable modem before the change took place.

I chacked out speedtest.net before reboot, 3.1mb, after reboot 8.85mb, this was at 7.30 on a fri evening. So I checkd again a few mins ago, 9.45mb.

How reliable is speedtest.net??

So Mugabe kills rigs an election which he clearly lost badly. He then forces a re-run. During this time he viciously attacks and kills many people who voted against him. He spread fear around his country. During his time in power he has made money worthless, he has destroyed the farming infrastructure. He has taken a stable and moderately wealthy country - in African terms - and driven it into the ground. He has received world wide condemnation for his actions.

What does England do? Takes away his honorary Knighthood and stops them from playing Cricket... does anyone else find this response completely inappropriate?

Hi!

Getting the obvious out of the way... yes, i am from space and yes i am a dog and yes my name is bobby. I am a good judge of character, yet sometimes confuse characters with characters in the code. Is it so strange to have a conversation with the code? You try coming from a really different place and see if you don't wind up talking to a piece of ascii. And yes, ascii is much different where i come from.

p.s I think it would be a good usability improvement to strong align the 'post new topic' and 'preview post' with the left side of the copy text... centering is always tempting, but generally creates more eye looking around then neceserarry... studies were done where I came from that showed when things line up with other things on the space you are looking at, naturally your eyes find them easier. while when something is placed in a space that doesn't align with anything we find it a challenge to locate.

Its just been a theme recently where I find myself looking for the most obvious thing on the page... like a downloading site and the last thing I see is 'download file' in some small icon randomly placed somewhere.

This is a website for a law firm based in Cork, Ireland. I've deliberately used DDD throughout and removed some alt attributes so that search engines could not relate it with this site.
It looks as though they want to take this design - but already have another designer who is charging astronomical prices. Basically - they're caught up in a contract with him and can't just say they don't like his.

Would like opinions on design and code. I think both are okay really.

The design is only one page at the moment.

I am looking for an escrow system.

It needs to do the following.

Accept money from Paypal, MoneyBookers, Credit Card
Record Transactions
Assign money to user
Allow for users with money to make escrow payments to other users.
Send a withdrawl request to administrator when a user wants to withdraw funds.

Does anyone know any existing open source scripts which do this? If not does anyone have tips on creating such a system?

Hey people

I am doing my nut in Basically on my website i have a blank for where my advertisers can write a description on what they are advertsing. The only problem is my form doesn allow any styling so it looks very bland, no bold,italics,colour,returns etc, so i would like to add this functionality.

Please please please help me i have been searching all over for a php script that will allo this but i just cannot find one, i know they must exist some where. If you know how to do it or where there is a script please let me know.

I was looking at a comment added to the tutorial I wrote for jQuery last weekend http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/articles/intr...pt-library.html

And was suprised to find that there was a link to an Italian site that has reused my examples in a summarised tutorial -- the re use is not malicious nor theft as there are constant references that I was the original author. I just thought it was quite funny that my tutorial was rewritten (not translated, actually rewritten and reflected on) in another language.

Velo and me are developing a multi language module for our CMS (well.. Velo is doing the developing, I'm just farting ideas his way) but we're stuck on something.

I said: why not have 2 divs. 1 for English, and 1 for French content. When the visitor selected French to be their language, the English div will be set to "hidden".
Velo said: "Isn't Google considering that as cheating?" I said: "Let's ask TWS"

Strange Rankings

I'm getting shockingly good rankings in broad searches, but strangely not doing much better in more specific ones. I'd like to know why that is.

My site is called the Badminton Bible. Here's an example; look at these two search results:

Creating A Global Mute Button?

I have a container Flash movie that loads in other swf files. Some of these have videos, sounds etc loaded in different ways from simply embedded to sound objects etc.

However what I need to add to the "holder" movie is a mute button that works across the board - ie it just puts the volume to 0, but doesn't stop anything. I will also of course need "unmute" capability.

I can't find anything helpful online. stopAllSounds doesn't work, and I can't use setVolume as it's not for specific objects. Surely there must just be a "global" volume functionality?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone have trouble with their clock? I am have Bootcamp and it seems that once every blue moon my Mac loses daylight savings time and leaps forward an hour.

The only fix I can find is to manually set the time back an hour then put it back onto automatic. Has anyone else had this problem?

quite happily pay some to write a script allowing me to put http://81.130.217.140/ into a web page.

it only works in explorer at the moment so if you could get it to run on any browser thats a bonus but not essential.

Ok - so I've got an .htaccess and .htpasswd file to protect my admin section of my site (/admin) and it works just fine when you go to www.website.com/admin/ - however when you go to www.website.com/admin/index.php - it'll ask you for a password several times, and if you click on cancel, it'll bring up the pages that are supposed to be protected. WTF?

Ive been trying to figure out how to do something like an image/content scroller such as this one: http://www.northpoint.org/home . Its the thing right under the happening now. Ive had several chances to use such a thing and tried and never finished building one in flash and I never got around to finishing or figuring out how. But I noticed this one is not in flash unlike many other church sites that I see around. So I was wandering how easy this is or how hard it is and how much someone would charge or even donate for a church. Let me know.
