<description><![CDATA[Velo and me are developing a multi language module for our CMS (well.. Velo is doing the developing, I'm just farting ideas his way) but we're stuck on something.<br /><br />I said: why not have 2 divs. 1 for English, and 1 for French content. When the visitor selected French to be their language, the English div will be set to "hidden".<br />Velo said: "Isn't Google considering that as cheating?" I said: "Let's ask TWS" <img src="http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /><br /><br />How does google handle hidden divs?]]></description>

		<title>Strange Rankings</title>
		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Search-Engine-Optimizatio-f19/Strange-Rankings-t1977.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[I'm getting shockingly good rankings in broad searches, but strangely not doing much better in more specific ones. I'd like to know why that is.<br /><br />My site is called the <i>Badminton Bible</i>. Here's an example; look at these two search results:<br /><ul><li><a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=badminton+serve+technique&btnG=Google+Search" target="_blank">badminton serve technique</a> -- ranked 6 out of 154,000</li><li><a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=serve+technique&btnG=Search" target="_blank">serve technique</a> -- ranked 8 out of 22,900,000 (!)</li></ul>And here's another one:<br /><ul><li><a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=badminton+doubles+tactics&btnG=Search" target="_blank">badminton doubles tactics</a> -- ranked 4 out of 111,000</li><li><a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=doubles+tactics&btnG=Search" target="_blank">doubles tactics</a> -- ranked 7 out of 10,600,000</li></ul><br />What the bejeezus is going on? Do I just need to use the word "badminton" a few more times in my text? I'm aware this could be an issue, but can it really have that much influence?<br /><br />The strange thing is that I'm thrashing my direct competitors in the really difficult rankings, but losing to them on the easy ones.]]></description>

		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Search-Engine-Optimizatio-f19/Newbie-Question-t1595.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[Heya<br /><br />I know that the "alt" attributes contribute to SEO, but I was wondering if the "title" ones do as well? I've been trying to keep it with the "alt" being the description of the image, i.e. photo of Eden project, and then for the "title" it's been something along the lines of "Information on the Garden Offers"<br /><br />Is that okay? Or will this not help the SEO for that particular page? <br /><br />Thanks in advance<br />P ]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I have a website which has links like this: www.domain.fi/topic<br />So all news items get that kind of url, top of that I have some extra url's with the same logic like www.domain.fi/guestbook etc...<br /><br />I'm currently doing a redesign of the website and thought to switch over to codeigniter at the same time. Now ofcourse I could do the same old url remapping with new site but I want to modify it a bit. Maybe just use the codeigniter default urls so they would be like www.domain.fi/news/item/topic or something like that.<br /><br />What's my best option SEO wise to do the redesign? It's not the most important site so basicly I could just ignore the whole SEO but still it would be nice to consider that part at least a bit too.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[How To Build Up Your Search Engine Friendly Url's]]></title>
		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Search-Engine-Optimizatio-f19/How-To-Build-Up-Your-Sear-t741.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[What do you think is the best way for SEO optimization to build up a url?<br /><br />You see it in many different ways, f.e.:<br /><br />mydomain.com/2/ (I would say bad SEO, but better than index.php?id=2)<br />mydomain.com/2/Pagetitle.html (pretty good, but hard to program different types of pages/modules, so maybe better:<br />mydomain.com/p2/Pagetitle.html (i think that's ok)<br /><br />Now what I currently believe to be a very good option:<br /><br />mydomain.com/Pagetitle-p-2.html<br /><br />Because it contains less slashes and contains title.<br /><br /><br />I was having a discussion (with lots of love as always :air_kiss: ) with delusion about this, because the url would seem "ugly" to a user. Because of the -p-2. Is "uglyness" an issue in usability or user experience in this matter? Is the url really important? I don't think anyone will even remember any url, however simple it would be. I would think IF someone remembers your website, they will probably still type mydomain.com and not mydomain.com/pagetitle.html. What do you think?<br /><br />Now i've been talking all the time about .htaccess mod_rewrite. Ofcourse there's the possibility to check a url in the database. So if someone types mydomain.com/pagetitle.html, you search for the string "pagetitle.html" in your seo table (or however it will be stored in the database) and return user to the correct page.<br /><br />My personal opinion is.... it will only use extra database load time on every page. Is it worth the extra load being able to use mydomain.com/pagetitle.html instead of mydomain.com/pagetitle-p-3.html ?<br /><br /><br />Looking forward to your opinion. Ofcourse the programming part and load time isn't really the most important in this matter. Most important is the SEO of the url. Does it matter if it says pagetitle.html or pagetitle-p-3.html? I would think not. You?]]></description>

		<title>Learning Php/mysql</title>
		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Education-Careers-f33/Learning-Php-mysql-t472.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[Hi all,<br /><br />I was very interested in Web design, so I first did a basic course, with which I did the following site with what I learned <a href='http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.microelec.ie%2F' rel='nofollow' target="_blank">http://www.microelec.ie/</a> . I don't keep this updated as I have not recieved any payment for doing the site. I know the site is done with tables, but its all I knew, and its very basic. <br /><br />I then went on to study CIW at a local part-time college. I know you are all saying why did you do that. I enjoyed the course but there was an awful amount of stuff in it. I see now that actually getting down and doing the hand coding etc makes you learn alot more. It also gave me my first insight to CSS.<br /><br />Anyway, I will need to add database functionality to a web site that I am doing. At the moment I have asked the client to hold off on this, and he is happy to for the time being. It is a site for selling property and the database would be used for a search feature for the different properties he has for sale. As far as I know this would be done with PHP/MySQL<br /><br />My question, after all that rigmarole, is what is the best way to learn PHP/Mysql. I have a book on it which I am just starting "How to do everything with PHP/MySQL". Is it just a case of sitting down and reading the book and doing the practicals in it. Or do you have an easier method for me to learn it. <br /><br />Thanks]]></description>

		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Link-Exchange-f21/Comment-Exchanging-t353.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[Many of us here, I'm sure, have blogs, in which we would be looking for extra comments.<br /><br />My idea is that, we all comment on each others blogs. They must be related to the post. For example, if Simon posts on my blog, I post on his. That way, we all get more comments, and more hits, and links on other blogs.<br /><br />Good idea anyone? Post here if you wish to undertake it?]]></description>

I run it on a dedicated server colocated here in California and we recently switched domain name from weeweeslap.com to coastercrazy.com We didn't do any good on page rank on the old domain name either. I know the first rule will be to change to a php forum so I use the URL rewrite, but that's reallynot an option now for me. I was hoping to get some pointers into how I can improve my page ranks. Thank you for your help!<br />-Oscar]]></description>

		<title>In The Beginning</title>
		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Education-Careers-f33/In-The-Beginning-t215.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[Although receiving an education in web design is a great start, it's only the beginning of what you need to learn to become a successful designer.<br /> <br />Experience is what will teach you the most. From beginning to end, the countless hours we spend sitting in front of Photoshop layer after layer, erase, blur, airbrush, cut cut cut then on to the code. <br /><br />A &lt;Table&gt; here a &lt;Div&gt; there, don't forget to Save! Previewing the code time after time, "borrowing" some code from here or there. In the beginning there's the scrolling marquee, the mouse trail effect and the oh so sweet background music.<br /><br />As time goes on you lose all the fancy extra's and realize the trick to a good design are those countless hours...<br /><br />-Jasontor]]></description>

		<title>Bad Google</title>
		<link>http://www.thewebsqueeze.com/forum/Search-Engine-Optimizatio-f19/Bad-Google-t170.html</link>
<description><![CDATA[As most of you will know getting good listings on google is not easy, especially if your site is new and there are hurdreds of other sites just like yours.<br /><br />Google Really annoys something rotten My SERP&#96;s should be higher for my targetted keywords but instead you get sites that have nothing to do your targetted keywords but have a forum post with your targetted keywords and blam they get ranked higher than you.<br /><br />You get lots of people all saying different things on how to raise your SERP&#96;s Im starting to believe they do not know what they are talking about, or maybe their keywords do not have as much competition as what Im up against.<br /><br /><br />Take Live.com <i>"yes we know its not as big as google"</i> Getting Good SERP&#96;s on their SE is a lot easier than google but not faster. For my targetted keywords I have managed to get top positions on first page. And the live.com SE seems to be more relevant than google in my opinion.<br /><br />BAD GOOGLE.......<br /><br />Any of you guys and gals having similar problems issues with google?]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Even though I retired in early 2006 I still get the emails from so called SEO expert websites. Some of the info is definately recycled stuff I read in 2003 - 2006. Which lets me believe not a lot has changed ? LOL<br /><br />So are certain search engines no longer top notch and to be listed on them used to be it.<br /><br />Is it now just Google, yahoo, Msn and ask? what happened to the free directory which was such a pain to get on to and even a bigger pain to become a member of. Is that place dead or do just the ultra geeks hang out on there these days?<br /><br />One of my websites was a 5/10 for many years, in the last month or so it has dropped to a 4/10 on google rankings.<br /><br />What are the best tools and sites to be listed for UK customers?]]></description>
