Ok - so I've got an .htaccess and .htpasswd file to protect my admin section of my site (/admin) and it works just fine when you go to www.website.com/admin/ - however when you go to www.website.com/admin/index.php - it'll ask you for a password several times, and if you click on cancel, it'll bring up the pages that are supposed to be protected. WTF?

Godaddy Finally Turned Me Against Them!

This morning I got up to check my email and to my surprise it said invalid login name or password and so I was startled because I havnt changed my password or any settings to that matter lately. So I gave them a call to see what happend, now my usual service with GoDaddy has been excellent. This conversation turned me against them.
Me: hi, I have a problem with my email.
Godaddy: Ok, let me look in your account.
Then all the login info etc went on. And finally we got to here:
Godaddy:It seems that your domain expired on 5/11 of this year.
Me:Ok thats weird I thought I had set it on auto renew.
Godaddy: Yes you did but we tried the card and something went wrong.
Me: The card is fine so im not sure what the problem is.
Then we talked about the card and aparently something happend that they "dont know".
Me: So what do I need to do to fix this?
Godaddy: Your domain has been carried over to the registry department and we charge a $80 fee to reclaim your domain.
Me: I was like O MY GOD ARE YOU PEOPLE INSANE? **I was already mad at this point
So we argued a few minutes and he said im sorry but your going to have to pay the fee to regain access to your email and your account. So I was very upset and I needed my email so I said whatever go ahead. So we went through the process and the total was like $90.19. And as a young designer I dont have alot of money to just give up like that. So Im very unhappy with them and am looking for another hosting/domain service. Any suggestions?

Apache Log Analyser Programmes

Heya

There's been a problem with the server that hosts work's website and I've been told to check out the log files. Well, I downloaded the access and error logs. What fun, the access logs have generated a 5995 page word document for crying out loud and just for a change, I don't know what I should be looking for. The hosting company says that they won't look at individual web stats/sites and they said that I should get/use a log analyser.

The website/server went down a few times and I ended up re-starting them in the CP that comes with the hosting.

The thing is, the host supplies webstats using Deepmetrix (which I found out today is coming to the end of it's "life"), but none of the reports are helping me find out just why the site does this annoying 'not loading' 'timed out' [insert favourite expletives here] thing.

Can anyone help me here? I'm really peed off as I'm supposed to be on leave and I'm just stuck and at my wits end.

Cheers in advance
Popje

Sup guys, need some help. I am planning on making a really fun and friendly (but oh so serious) place where people who stutter can get together and chat. The site will provide a safe place where members can get together and discuss their problem's, life and well everything.

The site will provide articles, organised voice chat, coping methods and reviews on therapy. Eventually I would like to integrate voice chat into the website. Further down the line I would also like to get some speech therapists and councillors involved.

That is what the site is about. If you do not know what stuttering is check out wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuttering

I have never been great with domain names. Does anyone have any ideas that to get me going?

Things I Should Know....

Hey,

I'm considering buying some space to host some sites. I have no experience with host, domains, etc, and was wondering what I should know before I get some space.

My plan is to offer hosting with web designs. I have a client whom I'm designing a site for, and I believe she wants to host her commercial site on her free 5mb of space that comes with her internet account. It's against the services providers TOC to host a commercial site on your personal space, so I was thinking that having some hosting options would be good to have.

So is a reseller account basically used for this? What do developers charge clients for 3rd party space?

Thanks.

I am not using my maximum bandwidth and do not want to upgrade my account for he sake of a few more. The reason I need more than 2 is that I need to host test versions of client sites. Some of these sites do not have table extensions and can conflict with each other.

I am looking for a webhost that will allow me to create 5+ databases.
Well, here it is, my first question on the new forum...

Since adding an SSL certificate to my domain name, I can't connect to my site with Dreamweaver anymore. Actually, when I'm in the setup window and test the connection, it connects successfully. But when I click «done» and try to connect, it won't let me. I did a little reasearch... am I right in thinking Dreamweaver doesn't support SSL? If so, is there a workaround? If not, what's my problem? Thanks!

Lisa

Best Standalone Hosting

I have a string of websites planned which all deal with the same subject. I will be linking to them from two major sites to get the search engines to pick them up first of all.

I host all my sites with Supanames.co.uk but I am worried if all the sites are hosted by the same host, I don't want to get the sites penelised as it might look like a link farm, which it is not. I go with Supanames as I find them very good. I will not touch 1and1 due to very bad experiences.

I need some very cheap hosting as the sites will only have max 5 to 10 pages with a very small form. They will have .co.uk and .com domains. There will be no crazy scripting or elaborate formats. Just to get potential clients to contact me.

So I need:

1. links to cheap but reliable hosting preferable in the UK.

2. Would it be OK to have all sites linked together and hosting on the same host?

Thanks for your info.

Domains - Hosting

Ok, I've been selling templates for years for people who pass by our site. But, I also have many different servers that we use for hosting our clients privately.

My trouble is that I've been testing some reseller accounts, dedicated, clustered servers and there does not seam to me that there is a one stop shop to allow me to sell domains, hosting, transfers to visitors that I don't know.

Trying a new one now for past 6 months.. OMG it's a nightmare so far.

1. You get a reseller account - ok
2. They give you a WHMCS Billing Software - hmm, HUGE!
3. You now have to have ENOM, Directi etc.. to offer all kinds of domains.

Also using another one - problem with them it's not automated. If you want to sell a domain, transfer or host it's all manual.. What the heck!

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can offer this complete package and not have to be a total guru from planet knowitall to make these all work seamlessly without paying out the nose before one sale is made??

I know that this may seam silly, but if your paying for a service or selling a service you want your clients to get what they pay for and not have to follow up manually to make it work.. ugh!

Thanks!
Scott
