I'll be sending out positive thoughts and energy to you, if that's okay, as I think that's as close to praying as I get now.

Thanks guys.. My local doctor is sending me tomorrow to get another x-ray for a second opinion. She is beside herself. She didn't believe it until mom showed her the x-rays.

QUOTE (mcdanielnc89 @ Jun 24 2008, 07:00 PM) *
The last couple of weeks I have been having hip spasms with sharp pains and my legs would go numb for around 15-30 minutes at a time. So we got into the doctor's office today and had to get x-rays taken. Well, the x-ray lady kept asking me if I had a zipper in my pocket. She asked me about four times, then I had her look, the doctor look, mom look and the nurse look.. There was no zipper. IT'S IN MY HIP!!!!!! It's been there since 2004 or 2005.. When my last surgery was... This brings alot to question. Was it rusted. Do i need a tetanus shot. Is this what caused my liver disease? Is this what's making my legs to numb... It's awful I have no idea what to do..

You should continue getting this investigated by medical professionals. My advice comes only as an expedition medic (I'm not a doctor).

Having a foreign object embedded in your body, for a protracted period, can cause a wide variety of problems. Objects may introduce a large amount of infection, which could be responsible for your liver disease -- although I wouldn't suggest you jump to that conclusion, as there are many other possible causes. Objects may also cause tissue damage, and put pressure on surrounding structures such as blood vessels, nerves, and tendons.

You should definitely check that your tetanus injections are up-to-date, and ask your doctor whether you should have a tetanus booster.

The pain and numbness in your leg may well be caused by this object. These symptoms could be explained by pressure on the femoral nerve (especially if the pain radiates from the hip, travelling up into your abdomen or down your leg). However, this explanation does not fit if your other leg is also affected by the pain and numbness.

Without a full medical history, without more detailed information about your symptoms, without specialist knowledge, and without the ability to give you a medical examination, it's extremely difficult for me to offer a diagnosis. This is all highly speculative.

Good luck.

Then they are liek Oh you will never have to workt he rest of ur life, LOL.. I'm like. I'm not worried about that.. I WANT TO KNOW HOW it got in there..

To be honest you have a case for malpractice. I would sit down with the operating surgeon before you sue and actually talk to the guy. I thought forgiveness was at the heart of christianity. If you sue him the guy could lose his license and job. This would be harsh if the zip was dropped in by an intern while closing.

If you do decide to sue then use it to pay of the medical bills. Invest the rest into your site. Retirement at 18 is going to ruin your life.

I hope you get better soon.

Indeed forgiveness is a must in Christianity, but it's not right for them to just get by with something that could have been prevented... I don't just want a bunch of money. I want to know how, why when and where it happened... I want them fired, yet I don't... I'm just with mixed feelings at this moment.. I still don't really feel this is true. I feel like I'm dreaming, but I know I'm not... mistakes happen all of the time and that's okay. If it weren't for mistakes we wouldn't get better at the things we do. We just need to find out Where, When, Why, and How it happend... I didn't have a liver disease UNTIL after the surgery about 4 months later. i don't know.... i do know I will not retire at 18, lol...

At the very least you shouldn't have to pay to have the zipper removed. That should be at the cost of the surgeon that dropped it in there.

Good luck... we wish you well and a quick resolution ...

Indeed I shouldn't, but I also shouldn't have been diagnosed with a liver diease if this zipper is what is causing it...
