Heya
It's me back with yet another problem. I'm not sure if it's an XHTML prob or CSS, but I thought I'd post it here. The following page displays how it 'should' in IE, but when viewed with FF, when you click through the links on the left menu, some of the pages slightly shift to the left. I've been staring at this for ages, and basically I can't see the wood for the trees. Please can someone help me out again?? Start here How To Find Us <-- shifts to the left Our Staff <-- shifts Our Services <-- stays where it should Contact Us <-- shifts I think it might have something to do with the amount of 'stuff' on the page. I know that sounds nuts, but the ones with more information ton the page, then those are the ones that appear to shift - however, the ones that shift, all line up. Aware that I'm sounding slightly crazy, but if you follow the links, you'll see what I mean (I hope). (I've validated the XHTML and my CSS and they came back without errors. So... apparently I'm doing something right! hehe) Thanks in advance. If you follow that line of reasoning a little further, you will arrive at the answer. What new page element appears, and takes up some space, whenever you have lots of content on a page? Answer: a scrollbar. This post has been edited by MikeHopley: May 28 2008, 05:18 AM |

Mike, you're a genius! Thanks mate. I once again feel like "Thicky McThick of the Clan McThick" © Ben Elton/Richard Curtis P Glad to help. Because IE always displays a scrollbar, it doesn't suffer from this "bug". This post has been edited by MikeHopley: May 28 2008, 01:32 PM |

Been there, done that.
Some might see it as their duty to fix the issue by changing the css so in firefox it'll show a scrollbar too always. I don't see the point. This post has been edited by velo: May 28 2008, 02:09 PM -------------------- fresh-style.nl - small webdesign & development projects |

I honestly didn't notice them!! I have to admit, I did actually add a little extra space to stop it from doing the IE-only-left-shuffly-jig thingy!
Still embarrased... but relieved too P. -------------------- QUOTE I'm challenged enough without any extra weirdness in my life! |

But, just how would you specify that FF show the scrollbars? -------------------- QUOTE I'm challenged enough without any extra weirdness in my life! |

I also use !important sometimes in my css, but i guess it's not very neat coding. Should use condition comments instead of those kind of hacks. Especially since IE7 also reads the !important line, and what will you do if IE7 is also different from firefox? Then you have to use the double comment hack?
CODE width: 400px !important; /*/* ff ignores next line */*/ width: 380px !important; width: 360px; 4 lines for 1 statement! I will try to force myself to use conditional comments instead of doing the above -------------------- fresh-style.nl - small webdesign & development projects |
