Whats the best way to created rounded corners. I do mine like this.

I zoom in and delete the following corner pixels. Each dot is a pixel smile.gif

.
.
. .
. . . .

I then select the corner and use the 'blur more' filter. It creates a nice rounded corder. I was curious if this was the method other people used or if they did something different.

?? I use the shape drawing tool with a corner radius between 5-20 px - depending on how big the corners will be.

Then I crop to a certain size and filp and rotate to get my four corners -- sometimes I will pull out the eraser to smooth the corners if photoshop anti-aliasing has smudged the corners or left white specks.

Yeah just play around with the rectangle shape and round the corners... Then it's a matter of copy and pasting that corner on anything you want.

Gaussion blur? No way... Turn up your canvas DPI if you have sharp edges... That will make smooth images.

When you create a new document you can go in and change the DPI (Dots per Inch aka Pixels per Inch). This increases the smoothness of your circles. In some versions of PS it's called Resolution.

Oh that one... But the bigger the resolution, the bigger the image will be! What if you want to create a rounded corner small button? That should not be with high resolution coz it will be a very big button.
That's where you need this Gaussian Blur to create a low resolution image with sharp edges biggrin.gif

Cheers...

No it won't be bigger... Well yeah the canvas will be but you can then crop it and send it off to be rendered by the web safe pallette therefore cutting your file sizes down to next to nil.

Reminds me.. I got hired one time to resize 105 million images to 400 x 330 for a humongous corporation's catalogue. The last person they had do it it took them well over 5 month's to open them up 1 at a time in photoshop and resize them. He had saved his action so literally he opened them up hit play on action and it resized and everything... Man do I feel sorry for that guy.

The same process took my computer 3 days to resize all 105 million images using a WONDERFUL resizing tool that I found "and it's free"! After I mailed the 500GB external drive back to the company in a matter of days they were in shock and hired someone to check my work. 2 weeks later I get a phone call that told me thank you for your hard and ridiculously speedy work as it took their last guy over 5 month's to do it...

Point of the story is... Yes that Gausse thing make be a little bit better but there is always another way biggrin.gif. And sometimes that other way will save you month's of work when ya need it.

Yeah it can... but the free program does it almost 100 times as fast, doesn't freeze up my machine, and the quality is far superb to that i have seen done by photoshop. Especially the smart crop feature that finds the subject and crops it around that. Sometimes the smart crop feature doesn't work... but easy to just turn it off and resize by proportion.

But I found out the technique quiet handy. Do you mind sharing to us what's the "WONDERFUL resizing tool" program called?

Cheers...

wow I started up a whole topic because I forgot to take my pill this morning that makes me not over analyze things... Sorry about that tongue.gif. The wonderfully amazing program is FREE and is available for download at Cnet.com It is called FastStone Photo Resizer and unless they have changed it you can use any plug-in image resizer "different qualities and speeds" to the program... So if you don't like one of the available ones just download another one and insert it. I have never done that as I think the ones that come with it are amazing. I use quality and I have never been let down. I have compared it to an image resized in PS7 and the quality is highly better than the PS7 one. Also I compared it to Microsoft Image manager crop and the quality is too close to call there. I might be saving it wrong in PS7 though so that may be the problem with the quality of the resize. Not sure about that.
