I'm trying to use the Photoshop Elliptical Marquee Tool to draw out a circle, however the circle is not a circle at all? It draws out a plus sign. For the life of me I can't figure how to set it to draw out a circle like it should.
Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? |

I take it that you are doing this just now and it's drawing a plus sign? http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/...A645E1E2ED.html.

Well apparently you can't use this on a 20x20 px, the image needs to be bigger to work.
This brings me to another problem. When I go to change the size, it loses it's look. As you can me and photoshop have this luv hate thing going on...... |

If you want images to scale properly without going blurry you need a vector image, use fireworks for this -------------------- |

No what i mean is that photoshop is designed for bitmap images, whilst fireworks is built for vector images.
How complicated is your image, would it be possible to do again in FW? Or you could still use photoshop and save as a PNG. -------------------- |

To be honest everything is complicated.. The image I was trying to make is a left round corner and a right. So I can just make that with fireworks then. So basically fireworks does pretty much very photoshop does but with different image formats.

this is kinda of topic a lil but anyway i personaly prefer FW to PS mani reason is that i lernt everything in FW and PS is just to complicated but also couse i find that FW gives a better finish. admitidly there is alot the u cant do in FW that u can in PS but theres allways a way round it to give you that same effect..

Photo Shop is mainly used for printing and films, where fireworks is designed for interfaces and websites.
It stick with firefox, unless I need to do something complicated then move into PS. It will save you lots of time and effort. -------------------- We are sorry but complaint.hell is not registered to Heaven Inc.

QUOTE A previous quote... Fireworks is a bitmap editor too. Illustrator + flash are vector programs. Yes, but fireworks is a middle program, it qualifies as both. Even though Flash is a vector program. To bad flash doesn't convert your images into nice raw vector images. Right on topic.. I will demo fireworks and give it a whirl. Does it have a better color editor then photoshop? |

I agree with Bruno, i was "brought up" as such with FW and find it far easier to use than PS, even though i have full copies of both. I should learn PS really!

Although the people at Adobe say that fireworks is better for designing websites, because it can make smaller images.. or something..

People at adobe say fireworks is for mocking up sites.
You can easily transfer .psd and .ai files to create working mock-ups and have a working site quicker for demo's. The designing app's are illustrator and photoshop. Want to do 'graphic design' properly, then illustrator is best. Vector artwork is better. My workflow is: Sketch > Illustrator > Photoshop > END or even Sketch > Illustrator > END I understand peoples hate for illustrator, it uses bezier curves and takes time to get used to. But photoshop was hard to learn at the start as well... |

Why do you guys say that it is hard to create a simple circle in Photoshop? I have no problem creating them until now!
What is the actual problem, sorry to ask this again -------------------- |

I have no problem adding a circle, I have a problem adding a gradient to anything, then trying to add a good shadow, getting the gradient to morph ... I hate photo shop. Gimp is the best for big projects, why cause I learned the basic in 30 min where PS was learned in 3 hours... OUCH!

I've been fiddling around with Photoshop since I was about 14 and now I can't have a computer without it installed.
Whether it comes down to me wanting to make a picture to pay out a mate, or to do something a little more professional. I recently got the Design Premium package at my work. I kind of wish that I'd gone for the Web Premium as I don't see much point in In Design. I'm sure at some point I will find a use for it, but currently between DreamWeaver, Illustrator and Photoshop (which are often running at the same time on my system, GOD DAMN NEED MORE RAM) I get everything I need done. |
