I think the home page navigation needs a title chnage from sections to "articles" as this is what comes up.

I would then add a second list of navigation to the forums.

either that or add latest forum updates near the top, latest 5 or something.

finally, seo 101 - why isn't your logo clickable to the home page?

There is a home link. I think that seo wise it would not be a really big gain!

ok, but from a usability pov, its what most people click on first to try and get to the home page. but hey, just a suggestion

I have to agree with welshstew on that one. Clickable logo is usability 101, although it may not have much impact on SEO. For SEO you can use the full URL in the href and put keywords in the alt tag. Again, it's about usability with this one! biggrin.gif

The this is... we don't JUST have articles ... we have tutorials as well.

This is the bit that's missing on the sidebar wink.gif We *had* it working but ... something blew up scratch_one-s_head.gif

This is something I have been pondering as well .... I think it's instinctive for people to click on a logo to go back to the home page. I might change that wink.gif

I find myself clicking the the web squeeze logo to go to the home page even though the home page link is to the right. Must be something in the name, I just want to squeeze it. scratch_one-s_head.gif

I did read on a blog some where that it was recommended to do away with the click-able logo link. Wish I remember where I read that now.

ok, but having it called "sections" isn't right either, as it isn't all sections, i.e. it doesn't include forums...

that's why they have categories above sections, probably where forums could go.

hmmm ... The sidebar structure is as follows

It's just the structure for the articles

Squeeze News

Articles
- HTML
- CSS
- Web Design
- .....

Tutorials
- HTML
- CSS
- Web Design
- .....

**** so ... instead of repeating the section under the Article and Tutorials categories, we just displayed then under Sections

Then a spot for adverts

Then we will have some forum stuff

then why not call it "articles & tutorials"?

sections just doesn't sound right, to me anyway, but that's ok, i'll leave it.

Hey guys,

It took me a minute to figure out what was going on here...

I didn't even realize there were other sections for articles and tutorials. I was going to actually open a topic under suggestions that you guys create these forums.

I think the main nav definitely needs to be reworked to help people find all the cool stuff you guys have on the site. And to be a buzzkill, I couldn't find any link back to the home page. (EDIT: OK I just found it. I think it just wasn't where I expected it to be. Why not replace the huge "Home" and "Advertising" buttons with "Articles" and "Tutorials"?) You have a link titled "The Web Squeeze", which leads to the forums, but there is no link back to the home page. Also, it is unclear where "The Web Squeeze" is going to take me. After finding it I assumed it would take me to the home page, but it didn't. A little confusing. While not a interesting, "Home" and "Forums" does the job perfectly.

I've actually noticed a bunch of small usability issues throughout the forums but I don't want to come off the wrong way. (right off the bat at least! wink.gif )

Rich

I'm going to need a little time to mull this all over. I'm a little thick like concrete so it takes a little time to sink in ya know!
Will take all your advice on board however.

Ok don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not sure hiding or moving the advertise button is a good business decision.
Obviously this forum has costs, and we need to attempt to cover them. Please don't take this as a "get rich endeavor".

Go ahead and post your usability issues as well. We promise not to take it the wrong way! smile.gif

Alright, would the attached image be any better as far as the linking schemes go? If not, what exactly do you want me to add or change?
