nice, is nbjf one of the search terms you are going for?

I would have thought that something like 'christian group' would get you more traffic. smile.gif

That's a good start. smile.gif And here's a rather better result: you get #1 for "new breed jesus freaks". But ranking for your brand name is not the real challenge: you want to rank for your keywords.

Not many people are going to search for "nbjf" or "new breed jesus freaks", unless they already know your website. wink.gif

It is important to understand whether your targeted keyword has any competition or not. If I make a website targeting "ALPHAROMEOJULIET" keyword, it will capture top rankings within a week of its launch. Most of the competitive keywords consume considerable amount of time. If you try targeting competitive keywords, only then you will come to know the real ranking power of your website.

Because most hacks / spammer use throw away domains, which are only used for less than a year because they are shut down. And for this reason search engines give a little more proirty to domains that are old.

Hmm.. I'm not too sure about that..
When you set up a WP site you can be found in Google within days after the launch. It happened to me a few times already..

This topic seems to split the SEO community. They just can't come to "ONE" conclusion.

QUOTE (Google' patent "Information Retrieval Based on Historical Data" of 03/31/2005)
Certain signals may be used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. … Valuable (legitimate) domains are often paid for several years in advance, while doorway (illegitimate) domains rarely are used for more than a year. Therefore, the date when a domain expires in the future can be used as a factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain and, thus, the documents associated therewith.

However, that's gone now and can't be found online. sad.gif

QUOTE (Search Engine Journal)
1. Website age (and its backlink profile age) is what really matters;
2. Domain age can play a minor part only as damping factor - i.e. one of the factors signaling the search engine that this might be a spammy / illegitimate site;
3. Old domains may carry more weight due to their past records (i.e. old backlinks pointing to them) - this can be a good point to consider but then again if you are serious about your brand, keep in mind that an established domain already has associations and history before you own it and they might be hard to conquer.

You can continue reading that article here.

No matter where you go in the world, age does matter. In the search engine optimization world, age also matters, however, it’s not the age of the SEO consultant, and it is the age of the various components that go into ranking a page. I believe that "age" is split into different categories, but no one except Google can say what effect they have.

I tend to agree with Nick on this topic...

Another interesting read....
http://searchstrategy.com.au/debate/does-a...age-and-google/

I believe that Google favors domains that have been registered for more then a year, as it shows commitment to that domain name. It's also an indicator that the website is not a temporary spam site, and plans to be around for a while. That's why we registered TWS for more then 1 year.

I suspect that the age of a domain is simply one of many factors in their anti-spam algorithms. There's probably some "threshold behaviour", where too many warning flags results in a penalty. Stay below the threshold, and I'd guess there is no blanket penalty for the age of a domain.

At least, that's the sort of weighted algorithm I would design if I were working for them. wink.gif
