** Pulls up a seat at the bar **

So, my new graphics tablet arrived today, I have never used one before -- the closest I have is my PDA -- and first impressions are absolutely fantastic. I have always been able to draw okay but could never quite get a handle with the mouse in photoshop. Now, I drew a few sketches and if feels just like a good 4B pencil smile.gif The stylus has 1024 levels of sensitivity and the pad is a good size 9x12 inches.

As I am new to the tablet popping world I wanted to know who else has one and if they have any tricks they could pass on. I would also be interested to know what other applications you have found a tablet works well with.

** Orders a juice **

I've been thinking about getting one recently. I think it would help a lot once you got used to it. How's the tablet when you're not "drawing"? Is it simple to use ie. Photoshop otherwise (browsing menus, settings and so on) with it? I've seen a person using a tablet with Phtoshop and it was very easy looking but the person had used it for years so how are you doing with it since you just got it?

This one I have has a lot of photoshop shortcuts built in like "New" "Open" and "Undo"/"Redo" with options the set up your own buttons.

I am still getting used to navigating with it though, it will take some time.

Ok, that's on my list of things to get. I've been doing tons of vector logo work lately and it would be so much easier to do it with a pencil-like thingy than a mouse. My hand cramps after awhile!

*Whips out credit card, looking for graphics tablet!

I have been thinking about getting a tablet recently.

How much would I be looking at spending to get a good quality tablet. To be honest I haven't done much looking. Can anyone recommend any makes/models and what price range I will be looking at?

I took a quick look at the prices here in Finland and of course it depends how big you want but Wacom Intuos3 has some good reviews and costs from a bit over 200€ (A6 size) to over 800€ (A3 wide). Maybe a A5 would be a good compromize with prize and size (399€). Didn't check any other brand but the wacom seems interesting enough.

What do you have Rakuli?

Hey Rakuli,

Tablets are awesome! Since I got one a while back I feel lost without one. They make working so much quicker, and if you get into illustrating it's a must-have. I still use my mouse when I need to do more precise things, but like Linda said it's a lot easier on the hand.

** Asks for another juice but the bartender seems to think Rakuli's had enough **
** Gets welsh to buy a juice for him **

OMG! That is exactly the same model I have, it is unbelievable that that you mentioned this one smile.gif It seems incredibly expensive though as I bought mine in Australia and with shipping it cost me $980AUD ( 1 pound is worth about 2.5 AUD at present) so the 600 pounds quoted in that site you liked to to stew seems a bit expensive... You may wish to try the site I got mine from -- I don't know if they will ship overseas of if you would have to pay duty on it but it may work out cheaper.

Well, I was never much of an illustrator but now that I can use freehand drawing I think I may become one.

** Oooh! Bartender saw welshstew buy Rakuli a drink after refusing service. Rakuli juggles for a bit and sings a jaunty tune and all is resolved **
