What is better SEO, london-souvenir.com or londonsouvenir.com
I have read to change the domain name from londonsouvenir.com to london-souvenir.com would be like starting from square one with your back links, would it be worth it?. Cheers |

Cheers The better choice is the one without the hyphen! Keeping it simple is better! -------------------- |

The better choice is the one without the hyphen! Keeping it simple is better! Oh, I thought that the words London and souvenir would be lost without using a hyphen? that's why I thought people use hyphens in their URL. This post has been edited by Jacob.R: Aug 3 2008, 08:07 AM |

Domains are really cheap now days, I would probably just go ahead and buy both domains and forward one to the other.

I agree with Jacob. Get them both.
I wouldn't have the hyphen, this is because its one more thing for visitors to remember when typing in the URL. -------------------- |

QUOTE Domains are really cheap now days, I would probably just go ahead and buy both domains and forward one to the other. Thanks yes, I will get them both. In what ways does the one that only exists as a name help the other that is the real site? Oh, and it says here roughly that the hyphenated url is more SEO friendly. I think that this part of the article is key. While it may provide a small SEO boost you are, in my opinion, losing much more important things.
QUOTE Problems of Using Hyphens in Domain Names
People may forget the hyphen and type “word1word2.com” as it is the traditional way of typing 2 words. Also it may be a bit harder for someone to spell out the whole URL over phone. Finally the hyphened URL isn’t worth as much as non-hyphened URL if you resell your domain name. -------------------- |

I agree the benefits are small and the hazards are great. If someone forgets the hyphen they will never find you.
Buying both is a good assurance. It's good to keep the competitors away from purchasing your hyphenated domain. -------------------- |
