Hey everyone,
Ive heard alot about the design process and the correct way to do it but I couldnt find an actualy compiled list of the process...jacobs artical is excellent though explaining some things...and I was wandering what is everyones process from the time a client calls you up and says hey I want a website until you have a finished product up and running. What are the steps you normally take?

There are too many steps to list in detail. Here is the general gist.

Approached by client
Get brief (via phone or email)
Generate Quote
Agree on Price
Sign Contacts
Get deposit

Plan Site (sitemap, pages, layout, content, milestones, functions, resources etc)
Plan Tests (What needs to work and the tests to confirm it works)
Share Milestones and Plan with client

Begin Work
Keep client in loop as I go taking on feedback, developing and tweaking
Somewhere around here I get rest of payment
Finish off project
Set up site for client
Provide support after project has finished.

Approached by client
Schedule a meeting for details
According to details, generate quote
If client agrees, explain process
(If I didn't meet in person - deposit goes here)
Register domain
Start designing
Show mockups to client
Make adjustments if necessary
Turn into css
Put in CMS (if necessary)
Finish site
Explain site to client
Support all the way..

Key Point is to get the deposit before starting any work (dont work for nothing)... and customers from my experience always love to be updated with whats going on
