This is probably a stupid question, but if i am doing a site for someone in germany, obviously i would have to get a .de domain name and everything, but would it matter if it was hosted in the UK?

Cheers

Craig

I don't think it would be a problem. A lot of german sites are physically hosted in the US. So I don't see why they should not be hosted in the UK.

If you prefer native german hosting you could try 1and1. Their packages are pretty much identical in UK and Germany (www.1and1.co.uk and www.1und1.de). Of course the control panel would be in german huh.gif

The only issue you may run into is latency as it will take longer for the data to travel to Germany from other places. I don't think it would matter if it was in the UK, but I would stay away from hosting in the US being that it's half a world away. It depends on where the majority of your visitors are from.

I don't know how much about it is true, but i have heard something about it being relevant for search engine indexing? That it might *slightly* influence it when the server IP doesn't match the domain extension of country? I'd think it wouldn't matter, but just wanted to share something i've heard. Can anyone tell me it's definately not true?

I have a .de domain hosted in America.... Seems to work all right. Otherwise, I can help you translate "bandwidth and php requirements" jargon biggrin.gif
