Hello EVERYONE!!

I want your thoughts on whether TWS should have a chat room on this fancy dedicated server we have here? Voice your opinion, should we give it a try? How active would it be? Would it really get used? Etc.

I think it's a really good idea! Would the different time zones be a factor in your decision? I'm not sure where the majority of your users are from. Just think, I could annoy you in real time as I talk a lot (that's what I meant - not ask questions about web design) wink.gif Gawd, don't let that put you off trying it for others!

I'd say: no..

well.. depends on what you hope it to be. Is the chat room just a place for us guys to chat about random stuff and have a laugh, than yes, sounds like fun.
But if you want it to be a source of quick answers on web design questions or different technical issues: no, because there's no log file of Q and A, and you want the forum to grow. With a chat, I think you lose a lot of content...

Yes Mark, I agree. We talked about this when we were at WF. There would NOT be any questions answered in the chat room. Although, the chat system I am planning on using has a log system so we can review to make sure that's not happening.

YESs!!!!!

I say yes, haha.... I like chat rooms as it's fun to chat with others. I think the questions abotu Webdesign and stuff shouldn't be answered, but instead just sent to the right board to be answered...

If Marks point does not happen, and what Jacob says goes then i think it will be a good idea, we can try it can't we.

The worst thing that happens is that it doesnt get used, and we get rid of it in a month or two.

Sounds good to me though

I voted no, there are just not enough members at the moment. Post's in a chat room will remove discussions from the Squeeze bar. If anything, at this moment in time it will dilute the squeeze content as opposed to bolster it.

Maybe considering in 6 month's or so when numbers continue to grow.

Sounds like and excellent idea bud.

After voting and then reading the thread, I do think Jason has a point on the diverting posts from The Squeeze Bar.

I voted yes. I think it can be fun. However ofcourse i read the comments of the people that voted no, and agree on it. I think it would be a good policy to keep it light (discussion wise), and make sure issues still get posted. I'd say that when someone has a question, they need to post it first. Ofcourse in the chatroom someone can always ask people to read a certain post and try to help them. That way, the forum still gets all the priority for ontopic discussions, but also people can try to get quick answers when in need.

IF it were to happen.. Would it be a webbased chat? Or IRC? Or combinaton of the two? Any ideas on that matter yet? I'd say the latter. IRC is comfortable for those who know how to use it, but you still want to think about the people less familiar with such chatting software.

I think chat is wonderful idea. Time zones cause a bit of problem but I don't think it's anything to worry about. People are just going to be online at different times. It's good to redirect questions to forum instead of answering to them at chat. Something I didn't even think about before reading your comments.

REMEMBER: The chat will only be fore general discussion. No help will be provided. A lot of you have voted no because of that and he has stated you will not get help in the chatroom

All of a sudden I had a spark of insanity and created a Web Squeeze IRC channel.

The web version is here: http://www.poppen.ca/tws

If you use an IRC client, these are the connection settings:

Find the server closest to you here: http://www.wyldryde.org/servers/
We're at channel #thewebsqueeze

This is NOT to make a statement or something. If there's an official TWS-chatter on the way, I'll remove this as soon as the new one is up. This is just to bum around on smile.gif

Not really sure what we will use. Probably flashchat, or Google Chat...something.

I'd go for the google option (or IRC)
