I need to do another website but I'm not a designer. Not the kind that produces good designs when asked at least smile.gif I was thinking 4templates for a template and then add own logo and some pictures to make it at least a bit unique. The prices are so low that it just might be worth it and the designs are looking awesome (most of them). I haven't seen much of those designs used so it's not like you see the same design every day. And I don't think it should be a problem even if you did. Look at all those blog designs which are recycled over and over again.

Does anyone have any user experience with this kind of services? I'm a bit concerned that does the xhtml/css code allow customization or has it done so that you cannot easily edit it. Any comments?

Almost forgot this: http://www.4templates.com/

When I started designing I just got the free templates, and adjusted them myself. I think it's a good way to start off if you want to learn designing.
On the other hand.. what kind of website is it? Is it for a client? If so, I'd let a designer create a unique design and charge the client for the design.

More to a friend than a real client. I'm not a designer and I know I won't become one. I'm happy as a programmer but still I want to provide the best design I can and this might just do the trick. This is basicly a zero budget project so outside designer is out of the question, but $30 design would be acceptable I think.

true, but don't expect unique designs for that price smile.gif

I have the opposite problem.. I'm more a designer than a programmer.. that's why I teamed up with velo.. He does the programming for my clients..
