Hi

This is my autism website. It is about my 10 year old daughter and it is aimed at putting over a parent's perspective on the subject. I know that the site is not w3c compliant and that my efforts at using CSS are poor to say the least.

As Jacob has stated - a lot of people using this forum are on the ASD scale - from fully autistic (like my daughter) to aspergers. I would really like to hear some feedback on the content of the site as much as the technical design. (Both have considerable room for improvement!)

Thanks for reading

Martin (UK)

This is a really great site ... there's never enough information about these things so good on you for starting it.

Design-wise, I think you have a really great start.

Coding-wise, learning on the fly is never really easy and yes I cringe at the fact that you are use the Design View in Dreamweaver, I understand the why wink.gif The links on the left could be a tad bigger.

If you ever want to start learning to hand-code, I just put up a sticky in the New to web design forum that just might help you out wink.gif As well the one in the CSS.

Good luck with the site!

Hi Martin,

The site looks good and loads fast. I am going to comment more on the contents not the actual design of the site.

It has a lot of info. Would be better to have a seperate page with all the links placed together.

The grey background is giving reading problems. I know I could up the font size but its still an issue.

On your schedule page you write the languages as "Deutsche" it actually is "Deutsch".
In the PDF you could replace the 3 times of day like this (Deutsch/German section): Morgens (mornings), Mittags (midddays), Abends (evenings) or why not just place a time on the form like this: 06.00 - 12.00, 12.00 - 18.00, 18.00 - 22.00. Lets face it most people will modify it to their needs anyway.
Morgen means Tomorrow, Nachmittag means Afternoon (and for Germans that starts at 3PM) and Abend means Evening.

One bugbear though is why you are offering website design on your autism site? It does not seem professional. If you really want to go down that route it is always best to have a seperate site promoting that and from there you promote the autism site as one of your projects.

Link with other autism site like yours, build up a virtual network of parents who have their own site as well. This will also up your site on the search engines.

Otherwise a really good effort.

Nice, simple, good readability. Everything one expects from this sort of website.

Simple and effective. However I think the coding code be better. Ditch the tables!

The layout reminds me of an open source template by haran - http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/1165

You could tweak that to input your content into there, that way you have more flexibility over the layout and you make the site 10x more accessible!

It's a great start.

I would make the left hand nav a bit bigger, the text is a bit small.

Also the home page needs more imagery / colour to make it stand out.

Also, the site is about looking after your daughter? Have you considered writing a diary / blog (sorry I didn;t see one on the site). This will help give more insight into the effects autism has on the entire family. it will also encourage people to become regualr visitors to your site, as they keep up withthe latest news.

I don't have anything to add since the others explained my thought just fine!

It's a good educational site. Easy to navigate and full of useful info! Good job.

<I do have a links page and perhaps I could duplicate some of the inpage links so that they also appear there - good point>

The grey background is giving reading problems. I know I could up the font size but its still an issue.
< agreed - I will give it some thought>

Lets face it most people will modify it to their needs anyway.
Morgen means Tomorrow, Nachmittag means Afternoon (and for Germans that starts at 3PM) and Abend means Evening.

< this schedule page needs a total re-write as the schedule is no longer in use with our daughter. I will be replacing this with a page on PECS and a lot more imagery>

One bugbear though is why you are offering website design on your autism site? It does not seem professional. If you really want to go down that route it is always best to have a seperate site promoting that and from there you promote the autism site as one of your projects.

<agreed - I have removed this link completely>

Link with other autism site like yours, build up a virtual network of parents who have their own site as well. This will also up your site on the search engines.

<yes - a very valid point>

Otherwise a really good effort.

Thanks for the feedback - I do listen and I will make the suggested changes asap

I think its perfectly suited, loads quickly, looks smart, not OTT, and focuses on content. well done. not sure about the mottled background?
