Hi! What are the current standards as far as designing for browsers? Which browsers and/or versions are obsolete?

I say if it works in Current Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Safari and IE6 + then your going to have almost everything taken care of.

Yeh that list about covers it

Good places to look are the W3C list of browser market share

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

and get a tracking script such as google analytics on your site and see what browsers your users are using

Jason agrees with me? The world is coming to an end?! lol

By the way, google search Multiple IE's and you can install multiple versions of IE on your current operating system. It is what I use and I have 6 and 7 running simultaneously.

Keep in mind that that doesn't work on a Vista machine sad.gif

anything else?
I haven't come across a program that I use that doesn't work or crash.
So far my Vista is at least as stable, if not more stable, than my previous XP-systems..

LOL - look out here comes the Vista debate biggrin.gif Start a new thread for that guys wink.gif

I agree with most of the points... You should be looking at IE6(unfortunately) and higher, Firefox, Netscape (which render very similarly), Opera, Safari and if it's your market, WAP/Handheld devices which usually display the same (for phones).

I make sure the content is viewable in IE 5.5 as well. I get about 100 visitors a month using it, and it usually takes only a minute to work out any minor bugs if you've got the design sorted in IE6. I stopped making it look perfect, though tongue.gif

I can't say I've ever tested for Netscape, seems you guys think I should start doing so!

I have never found a site that doesn't work in the later versions of Netscape that works in Firefox... I have it installed just in case there are some irregularities but I have yet to find any -- unlike the bad old days with NS vs IE.

I wouldn't bother with Netscape. Too few people use it, and it's too similar to Firefox to merit special attention.

My list for testing:

IE6
IE7
Firefox
Opera
Safari

These browsers account for 98.6% of my traffic over the last month. I only test in the latest (non-beta) versions of FF/Opera/Safari, because users of these browsers upgrade rapidly. I also only test in Windows.

I also use SeaMonkey because it allows me to test <link> navigation properly, and I use FANGS to check the textual rendering.
