Fashion, furniture and accessory designers rely on Color Marketing Group, the leading international organization of color design professionals, to predict the next color trends. For 40 years, CMG has been predicting trends in advance so designers can design accordingly. Why not take what’s hot and use it as inspiration for your next design. Here’s what’s HOT for Summer 2008.

White White White

White is so hot for summer and that’s a trend that we can easily put to use in web design. White looks clean and is a great backdrop for dark text.

Pixel Umbrella

Pixel Umbrella is a great example of a white palette.  Even though it has subtle shades of other colors and a little black, the emphasis is white.

Bold Prints

Black on White, Blue on white, brown on white, 60’s prints with a hint of yellow.

Bold prints are so fun! Use them as a background or as a fill to elements in your design. Here are a couple that I liked.

Simona Slobodnikova

Simona Slobodnikova uses a bold print so effectively.  The circles are very reminiscent of the 60’s but the design certainly has a fresh look.

Bold Floral Prints

Bold Floral Prints won’t be for everyone or for every design. But depending on the situation, bold floral prints do make a beautiful statement. Floral prints can be used in backgrounds or as a portion of a background that fades out to a solid color. Other uses would be as borders, and accents. Check out these two floral prints I found.

If those are too powerful, take a look at floral prints that have been toned down.

The Truffle Kit

The Truffle Kit is a two toned brown floral pattern. Gorgeous!

Frosk.org

Frosk.Org overlaid a white bold floral pattern over an image.
As you can see there are ways to use today’s trends in web design without looking like an overdressed sofa!

Green

Green is still extremely popular especially with our minds focused so directly on the environment. However, according to CMG, botanical greens are out and this summer’s green has a shade of brown to it like this.

Lipton Green Tea Mint

Lipton Green Mint is the perfect example of this green!

A strong Ethnic trend for the summer is expressed by Yellow, Turquoise and Magenta.

Yellow

Yellow is a color where a little goes a long way. Unless you are creating a website on the sun or bananas, you will probably want to limit yellow to accents or as this site, Agent 89, did to it’s header. That’s drama without being nauseating.
