Choosing the Best Doctype for your Website

What is a Doctype?

“Doctype” is short for “document type declaration”: it declares what type (or “flavour”) of (X)HMTL you are writing. Different types of (X)HTML have different syntax rules, much as different languages or dialects have different vocabularies or grammars.
